My friend Shoemoney has launched a contest asking if anyone out there can out rank him in Google, Yahoo, or MSN in a search for the word shoemoney. This is a monumental task, and the total prize (split between three search engines) is only $1,000, o many of the industry big names will probably pass on this one.
In fact, a recent post on digg.com indicates that the prize may be too small to attract top talent. Websites are already starting to pop up around the web in an attempt by lesser-known shoemoney fans to beat the shoemoney master at his own game.
One such site is http://www.myshoemoney.com. It looks like this shoemoney contest entrant is trying to overcome some of the advantage shoemoney has by owning the shoemoney.com domain. Even if this guy doesn't win, the page is pretty funny!
Another URL that was recently registered according to Godaddy is http://www.shoe-money.com. A quick check also revealed that a number of second-tier shoemoney domains are currently available (i.e. .ws, .info, .tv, etc…).
I am not sure how shoemoney is going to gain any "shoemoney" from this effort, and he could just lose his top ranking in MSN and Yahoo for the term shoemoney if he is not careful. Is there any benefit from elevating the number of searches for the keyword shoemoney? The world may never know – no one but shoemoney himself does.
